Counseling & Art Therapy for Children

Many children I see have experienced the death or illness of someone close to them or are struggling with some form of anxiety or anxious behavior. With children, as with all my clients, my goal is to build a foundational relationship of trust by invoking a style that is both attentive and lively, catering to each child’s style and needs. Together, we “play” with art, nature, movement, improvisational games, and other phenomena- exploring questions such as “what if…” and “why not?” that, with practice, have the ability to expand capacity for change.

Support and buy-in from a caregiver is absolutely critical to positive change - and yet, parenting is hard on a good day, let alone when your family or child is struggling with a major life stressor. When a child is the identified patient, a caregiver attends a portion of the session to set and make progress on family goals, talk through family challenges, and to ensure the caregiver is receiving the support they need in order to support the child.
